We are living in a village of middle – class residents, where people are too busy to mingle with neighbors. The setting is too sad that we as neighbors never really get to see each other. The youth, particularly ages thirteen to thirty – nine, and single do not really go out to mingle with their used to be childhood friends in the neighborhood. We are of absolute need to make a revamp of how our community works. We felt the need to start with the youth. The youth, we believe are easier to mould than the older ones. And we were really hopeful that the parents would appreciate. Without unity, there will be no community… And we all hoped to get an all – positive reaction and I don’t think otherwise.

It is a good thing we held this summer activity in our community. We set up the park into a field with barriers; it is perfect because there are big old trees in the location, we just added more woods and plastic drums – and voila! We have our very own version of paintball arena. All improvised. But to keep it simple and without so much expense, instead of an actual paintball gun, we made use of small paint filled balloons and just have it thrown by the players to their opponents. It was such an experience of paintball, well sort of. The youth really enjoyed the game worry free. We have prepared so many that it felt so unlimited to them. We have cut down on expenses, we felt how they have enjoyed the game and we have brought them together in this occasion, through our interpretation of paintball. It was such an experience especially for not having anything for years. Their hibernation made them not so palpable for years to help out in community activities. After the activity, we talked about having that paintball thing again, next year. Our aim was to bring the youth back together again and we got a plus! We did not expect that the parents and the other elders would have a positive response to the activity we prepared. Sometimes it feels so good to have achieved your objective and it feels even better when you gain something that is unexpected.

The youth in the community should be taken care of. They are the ones to inherit the positions we are holding now, as officers. In our community, our strategy worked. We were extra – sensitive to the needs of the youth. In this way they are being responsive to us too. A place where give – and – take is practiced becomes a piece of heaven on earth. Who doesn’t want to give a piece of heaven to their families especially to the young ones? Everybody wants this especially those parents who anticipate that their children will be the ones to enjoy these blessings. It is not just about the succession but the values you instill in the children’s minds. All goodness starts in proper mind setting. After all, community is not without UNITY.
