Online marketing can be overwhelming, especially when you are new and merely starting to learn about the field. As you read through forums and articles, you'll see all kinds of lists about what it takes to be the next big thing. The items on these lists likely all seem conflicting. One will state that you must be patient if you desire to be the next big thing. Another will state that you must be super smart about business if you wish to be the next big thing. Still, another will say that being creative is what will make you successful. And, of course, there are going to be oodles of sales pages claiming they have the software program or training to teach you how to be the next big thing.
Here's the facts: All of these things matter (OK, maybe not the software program, but the other things). Business smarts, creativity and patience are all very crucial to your success in IM. Of course, if you are not able to distinctly communicate with buyers and clients, none of the rest of it will actually matter.
Good communication means more than merely creating a great sales page. All you need for that is the money to employ a talented copywriter. A gorgeous web site and extensive FAQ are not what you need for effective communication. A skilled web site designer and writer can take care of those things. Good communication involves being good with interpersonal communication and in direct copy as well. So, how do you do that?
1. Reply to each and every email you receive within 24 hours of it arriving in your inbox. This is no jest. Your response doesn't have to be lengthy. All you have to do is write a brief message that says something like "I read your e-mail and will be sending you a full response soon." When you do this, try including a reference to the other person's e-mail. This helps the the other person to distinguish your email from the auto responders that everybody else uses.
2. Answer calls. Avoid screening your calls. Try answering the telephone by the third ring. You should do this even if the Caller ID tells you that the call is from somebody that you really do not want to talk to. There's great news about this rule. You don't need to answer your telephone 24 hours a day. Instead, set clear business hours during which you will be available to answer calls. These hours should be displayed conspicuously on your website and included in your voice mail message too. And, lastly, always return your calls.
3. Ensure that the people you send messages and emails to really have gotten those messages and emails. This will indicate to the person that you genuinely care about keeping in contact with them. It will endear you more if you say something like, "Is there anything that I can be more clear about?" so that, if they have questions, you can answer them.
