Internet marketing can be overwhelming, particularly when you are a beginner and just beginning to learn about the field. As you go through forums and articles, you'll find all sorts of lists about what you have to do to be the next big thing. The items on these lists probably all appear to be contradictory. One list will claim "patience" is the ingredient to succeeding in the IM field. Business savvy is one other claim often made by these lists. Nevertheless, others will tell you that creativity is the secret to wild and fabulous success. And, as can be expected, there are going to be loads of sales pages claiming they have the software or class to teach you how to be the next big thing.
Know this: All of these things are important (well, perhaps not the software package, but the other things). You do need to have patience, business savvy and creativity if you wish to be a success. Naturally, if you can't intelligibly communicate with purchasers and clients, none of the rest of it will basically matter.
Good communication means more than just having a terrific sales page. A good copywriter can handle that aspect of your project. There is more to good communication than making a pretty website that has a long FAQ. An experienced web site designer and writer can give you those. If you wish to be an effective communicator, you must acquire interpersonal communication skills, not merely straightforward copywriting. So, what do you need to do that?
1. Answer every email sent to you within 24 hours of it arriving in your inbox. This isn't a joke. Your reply doesn't have to be long. All you have to do is tell the original writer that you have read the email and will be answering it in full shortly. When you do this, try including a reference to the other person's e-mail. This helps the person emailing you to distinguish your email from the auto responders that everybody else uses.
2. Pick up the phone. Being a call screener is lame. When your phone rings, pick it up by the third ring. Make sure you do this even if the Caller ID tells you that the call is from somebody that you really do not want to talk to. You'll be glad to find out that there is an exemption to this particular rule. You do not have to answer your telephone around the clock. Instead, set clear business hours during which you can answer calls. These hours should be displayed prominently on your website and included in your voice mail message too. And, lastly, see to it that you call back.
3. Ensure that the people you send messages and emails to really receive those messages and emails. This will indicate to the person that you genuinely care about keeping in contact with them. It will endear you more if you say something like, "Is there anything that I can be clearer about?" so that, if they have queries, you can answer them.
