No one looks forward to aging. Achy joints, unwanted wrinkles, and other unwelcome changes can leave one feeling old and miserable! But this doesn't have to be the case. There are hundreds of ways to keep mind and body looking and feeling youthful well into old age. We need to take charge of life and work hard to keep feeling young.

Aging is something you can slow not matter what your age. There is no such thing as it being too late to eat healthier or to increase your activity level. If you can consider the option, you can do it. The old saying you cannot teach an old dog new tricks does not apply to humans.

Incontinence can be an embarrassing problem for older adults. No one wants to have an "accident" in a public place, let alone at home. There are many options for protection in the event of leakage, such as leak-proof undergarments, pads and pads for beds and furniture. These supplies are often covered by Medicare, so check and see if you qualify!

As you age, it is very important to incorporate exercise into your everyday life. Exercise plays a very important role to healthy aging. It can increase your mental health and keep you strong and agile. It can also reduce any chronic pain that you may have. Just remember to always check with your doctor before starting any exercise routine.

Skip the tanning salon and try a self-tanner instead. You can avoid age spots, wrinkles and other discolorations by simply avoiding tanning salons. Furthermore, it will provide a boost to your wallet. Self-tanning solutions come in a variety of formulations to suit your skin tone, and are an excellent alternative to tanning beds.

Use rose or peach shades on you lips, and add warmth to your skin with blush and a makeup base that is a shade darker than you would normally use. Add definition to your eyebrows with a brow pencil, and use a yellow based concealer for under eye shadows. With the right makeup your gray hair will look fantastic, and you will actually look younger.

As you get older, exercising your mind is just as important as exercising your body. Challenging your mind can help you to keep your memory sharp and deter cognitive diseases. Try changing up some of the activities that you normally enjoy. For example, if you like to cook, try some new recipes. If you like games, challenge your spouse or grandchild to a game of Scrabble. Another way to keep your mind from running on autopilot is to vary your everyday habits. Shop at a different grocery store. If you're right-handed, try eating, brushing your hair and other simple activities with your left hand and vice versa. If you're in the dark about new technology, enroll in a computer course at your local community college. The opportunities that await you are vast, fun, informative and stimulating.

Treat all of your trips to the grocery store as if they are trips to the pharmacy. The healthy foods in the store can be powerful when it comes to helping you age gracefully. Skipping junk food and opting for natural foods may help you feel great even later in life.

Instead of despairing over your future, find things for which to be grateful, such as your grandchildren or your continued health. Acknowledge your fear, anger and other negative feelings about aging by talking to a therapist or a loved one. However, learn to accept the things that are beyond your control, and look for the truth in clich??s, such as viewing the cup as half full instead of half empty or finding the silver lining in every cloud. A positive attitude is one of the most age-defying gifts you can give yourself.

As you can see, aging doesn't have to mean the end of an exciting, active life. Caring for your body and mind will keep you healthy, and an active social life will keep you feeling younger and more in charge of your life. Take advantage of all that life offers, and you can put off the effects of aging for years to come!
